Charles Buchan's Football Monthly was first printed in the early 1950s. Recognised as the leader and innovator in many ways as it bought quality editorial and classic images of football to a keen reader. However, such quality comes at a cost and CBFM struggled to survive as other football magazines sought to take it's readership away with more gloss, cheaper cover price and more easily digested content. In the 70s, Ken Bates (yes that one) took the bull by the horns and changed the format and focus of the magazine, dropping Charles Buchan's name from the cover. Spanning so many years, Football Monthly magazines are still collected and thir value hold very well. The content is still used today as no other football magazine contains such a wealth of football history and journalists today still feed off that aspect of it. The magazine has it all, it's a comment on the growth of football over it's time. You don't need to be a collector to enjoy that content or the conversation it give fuel to, try taking a copy down the pub, place one on your coffee table or in the little room you'll soon see.
